Council to build new homes in north of borough

Work is due to get underway on a £1.4million scheme to build new council homes in the north of Dudley borough.

Over the next three years, Dudley Council is investing proceeds from the sale of council homes to develop a number of new sites that will provide much needed affordable housing.

One of the first schemes to get underway will be a development of 11 homes on a former garage site on Davies Avenue in Coseley.

£1.4million will be invested to develop 2 x four bedroom houses, 7 x two bedroom houses and 2 x two bedroom bungalows.

Alan Lunt, strategic director for the place directorate at Dudley Council, said:

“Seeking out and developing small sites across the borough, which are ripe for development is a key priority for the council.

"It’s essential we continue to invest the money we receive from the sale of council homes to continue our efforts to provide more new and affordable housing in the borough.

"This will ultimately help reduce the number of people on our waiting lists.”

The council has appointed developer Jessup Brothers Ltd to build the new homes, which are due to be completed in early 2017.

The development will be carried out under the national Considerate Constructors Scheme guidelines and initial works will include site preparation and laying foundations.

When the properties are due to complete they will be advertised to let via the Dudley at Home website, dudleyathome.org.uk.
