The Deputy Mayor of Dudley has officially opened a new hub for carers in the borough.

Councillor Andrea Goddard opened the hub - based at the Brett Young Day Centre in Halesowen - as part of a Festival of Light event there last week.

It is one of two in the borough, with the other located at the Queens Cross Network in Dudley.

The hubs support unpaid carers of all ages, offering information, advice and support.

The event was organised to tie in with the Festival of Light and Carers Rights Day to recognise and celebrate unpaid carers and the care they provide.

Carers made lanterns and decorated jars with battery lights, while there were also dance performances, relaxation sessions and talks from carers about their experiences. Councillor Andrea Goddard, the Deputy Mayor of Dudley, said:

“I was delighted to attend this event to mark the opening of a second hub in the borough offering advice and support for carers.

“It was great to see the role of unpaid carers – who give invaluable support to their family and friends - celebrated as we mark Carers Rights Day.

“Many people who provide care often don’t see themselves as a carer, and are therefore not aware of the support and help available to them.

“That is why these hubs are so important, and I would urge anyone caring for a family member or a friend to get in touch and see how they can help you.”

The hub can help with information on financial and legal issues, advice on social care and health services, emotional support, and assistance in getting out and about through social and carers groups.
