Double platinum award win puts council team on the map

Dudley Council’s mapping team are celebrating after they won two prestigious accolades at an industry awards ceremony.

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team, who maintain address and street data in Dudley borough, were awarded two platinum awards at the GeoPlace Exemplar Awards.

The platinum honour is the top prize on offer at the Exemplar Awards and recognises the very highest level of data quality found in local government records.

For the first time, the GIS team, working closely with their Network Co-ordination colleagues, picked up the highest possible recognition in the Local Streets Gazetteer category. They were also awarded the Local Land & Property Gazetteer platinum recognition, which they have now received for two years in a row.

This is the seventh consecutive year that the council’s mapping experts have been recognised at the Exemplar Awards for their outstanding work in the maintenance of accurate land, property, street and address data. Councillor Phil Atkins, cabinet member for corporate strategy, said:

"Our mapping team very much deserve these two awards. They are some of the real unsung heroes of our borough.

"After winning one platinum award last year, they have worked closely with the network co-ordination team to bring our streets data up to a similarly high level.

"Their work underpins the delivery of many council services and provides residents and businesses with the accurate information they need."
