Dudley Council is on course to invest more than £1.5m on road safety schemes across the borough this financial year.
The annual budget will see the cash spent on new anti-speeding measures, road safety measures around schools and the improvement of pedestrian facilities.
Dudley Council recently consulted on a proposed speed management programme on Coombs Road in Halesowen, which has been identified as a priority route for intervention due to speeding vehicles.
The £40,000 scheme is likely to include installation of new central hatching, trimming of vegetation and foliage to improve visibility and lighting, moving give-way markings further out to improve visibility from side roads, improved warning signs and slow markings and new and upgraded reflective bollards.
The council recently spent more than £70,000 on Cinder Bank, Netherton to reduce vehicle speeds and improve pedestrian provision along the busy corridor.
Other schemes set to take place over the next seven months include speed reduction measures along Auckland Road in Wordsley and safety measures outside the King Alfred School in Gornal.
Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for economy and infrastructure, said:
“We’re committed to making Dudley’s roads safer for everyone.
“This £1.5 million investment reflects our ongoing efforts to reduce accidents, improve visibility, and create safer routes for schoolchildren and residents alike.
“Targeted schemes such as this one along Coombs Road are part of a range of measures the council is taking to address the menace of dangerous driving.”
Work on the Coombs Road scheme is expected to begin in the coming months and people in the local area were written to as part of the council’s statutory consultation process.
