Dudley’s Liberal Democrats launched their local election manifesto with a pledge to offer zero-interest loans to make homes greener.
The pledge was part of a range of measures in a manifesto ahead of elections on May 7 when at least 25 of the council’s 72 seats will be up for grabs.
The Lib Dems fired the starting gun for their campaign at an event in Stourbridge on March 14 where they claimed their ideas meant a ‘new chapter’ for the borough.
Dudley Lib Dem leader, Cllr Ryan Priest, said: “I’m proud that the Liberal Democrats are putting forward the most ambitious platform ever offered to residents living in Dudley borough.
“The task before is clear: beat Labour, stop Reform and start a new chapter for Dudley.”
Dudley is currently run by a minority Conservative administration which has relied on support from the Lib Dem’s five councillors to win vital votes like the budget. Despite criticism the price for supporting a Tory budget was spending concentrated in their own councillors’ wards, the Lib Dems claim to reach across the region.
In their manifesto, the party says: “We secured a borough-wide capital programme focused on practical improvements that residents can see every day.”
The manifesto also says the Lib Dems secured additional litter bins, a flagpole for every ward and increases to community grants.
Among promises in the manifesto, the party says it will create neighbourhood plans for all communities, introduce a rapid pothole repair guarantee, make Dudley a child-first borough where all decisions are assessed for their impact on young people and create rapid response teams to tackle antisocial behaviour.
The Lib Dems say they will tackle the climate crisis by providing zero-interest loans for heat pumps and insulation in older homes, putting solar panels on public buildings, oppose building on green belt land and expand safe walking and cycling routes.
