Dudley Mayor on the ball with free footy offer

As World Cup fever takes hold, The Mayor of Dudley is working with Stourbridge FC to give people the chance to watch free football matches at the club.

Throughout the next season, all Stourbridge Women’s FC home league matches will be free to attend.

The Mayor of Dudley has visited the club to discuss the Floodlight Appeal, which is one of his chosen charities. They also talked about the Mayor’s commitment to championing local and women’s football and increasing participation in local sport.

Stourbridge FC is home to several teams, with the women’s first team playing home matches at the War Memorial Athletic Ground in Amblecote.

The partnership will see the Dudley Mayor and his ambassadors attend fixtures throughout the season, helping to boost crowds while raising funds for local causes.

Councillor Pete Lowe Mayor of Dudley said: “During my Mayoral year I want to do all I can to promote our sporting heritage. The agreement by Stourbridge FC to allow free admission to the women’s home league games is a great initiative and I cannot thank them enough.

“Mayoral ambassadors and I will seek to attend regularly with our charity collection tins to raise money for those able to contribute. Watch this space over the coming months for further exciting initiatives to promote our wonderful Dudley borough.”

Stourbridge FC’s Floodlight Appeal is one of seven charities and causes being supported by the Mayor during his civic year, which is themed around creating a “BOSTIN Dudley” celebrating pride, inclusion and community.

Andy Pountney, Chairman at Stourbridge FC, added: “It is great to meet the Mayor and to be named as one of his chosen charities as we celebrate our 150th anniversary year.

“We are proud to be working together to promote football in the borough, particularly the women’s game, and to welcome new supporters through this initiative.”

Further joint initiatives are expected to be announced in the coming months as part of the Mayor’s wider initiative to showcase sport, health and community participation across Dudley.
