Sonia Kumar MP has launched a petition calling on Dudley Council to halt plans to privatise Sycamore Adventure Centre, a much-loved community facility that has served local families for some 16 years.
The centre, which provides a safe, inclusive, and creative space for children and young people, is under threat from proposals that could see it transferred into private hands. Campaigners argue that such a move would undermine its mission as a publicly accessible resource.
The petition, which is now live online, calls for the protection of the centre and a firm commitment to keep it publicly run.
Ms Kumar said: “The Sycamore Adventure Centre has been at the heart of our community for over a decade. It is more than just a play space – it is a place where children grow, families connect, and young people feel safe and supported.
"Privatisation would threaten everything that makes this centre special. I am proud to stand with local families, carers and campaigners to say loud and clear: Sycamore must remain in public hands, open to all.
"This petition is about protecting a vital community asset for today’s children and for generations to come.”
Residents are encouraged to show their support by signing the petition at survey.labour.org.uk.
