Dudley paramedics charity challenge

A husband and wife from Dudley Hub are set to take on two major fundraising challenges within the next four months to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.

Sadie and Luke Huntley from Kingswinford are both paramedics at Dudley Hub and will be taking on a marathon and mountain climb in a bid to raise £5,895 for The Beacon Centre which provides services for people living with sight loss across the West Midlands.

Their first challenge will see the duo run their first ever marathon in Chester on 11th October 2026.  Then, in January 2027, Sadie and Luke will travel to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak! The seven-day trek will take them to the 5,895 metre summit; representing £1 for every metre climbed of their target amount.

Sadie, 30, who has worked for WMAS for seven years, said: “This challenge is very personal to me as I have a close family member living with advanced macular degeneration.

“The Beacon centre does amazing work for local people living with sight loss and it’s a great honour to be taking on these challenges to support them.

“The last few months of training has been really challenging and time consuming both mentally and physically alongside shift work, but I’m proud of our motivation and persistence and excited to complete the challenges we’ve trained so hard for” 

Luke, 32, has worked for the service for 10 years and added: “We’ve spent months training for the 26.2-mile challenge and are looking forward to putting all that work to the test on race day later this month.

“When we’ve completed that then it’ll be time to train for Mount Kilimanjaro! To help reach our target we’re also holding a fundraising evening on 28th November at Nines Social Club in Pensnett which will feature live music and fundraising activities. All are welcome to attend!”
