Dudley will pay tribute to all the men and women who have given their lives in war at this year’s Remembrance Service.

The annual event will take place on Sunday November 11 and will include a two minute’s silence for people to give thanks and remember those who gave their today for our tomorrow.

This year’s Remembrance service falls on Armistice, the exact moment the First World War ended 100 years ago and a 'Dudley Remembers' artwork special tribute will be made to commemorate this 100th anniversary. Everyone is welcome to attend the service, which will take place at the cenotaph in Ednam Road, Dudley from 10.40am, with the two-minute’s silence at 11am.

Beforehand, veterans will be joined by servicemen and women and community groups in a parade from Vicar Street starting at around 10.15am. It will move along High Street, Stone Street, Priory Street, Priory Road before finishing in Ednam Road by the cenotaph. Uniformed organisations will meet in Vicar Street from 10am.

Several road closures will be in place to make sure the event runs smoothly and safely including Priory Road, Ednam Road, New Street, Tower Street, Priory Street, Stone Street, St James’s Road, Parsons Street, Market Place, High Street, Wolverhampton Street, Union Street and Vicar Street. Councillor Alan Taylor, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

"Our Remembrance Service is the most important event in the civic calendar. It’s our opportunity to come together to pay our respects and remember all the brave people who have given the ultimate sacrifice in conflict for the benefit of future generations.

"We also give thanks to those who continue to defend our freedom today. Each year thousands of people attend the service and as we will be marking such a significant anniversary in our military history, I hope this year will be no exception.”

Community led services will be also held in other areas of the borough, including Halesowen and Stourbridge. People can contact their local Royal British Legion Branch for details.

As part of the World War One 100th anniversary, there is a special exhibition at Dudley Archives and Local History Centre. People can find out more about individuals who had a connection to Dudley borough and either served in the armed forces or were nurses at the time. 

The ‘Their Today for our Tomorrow’ exhibition is open to visitors on Tuesdays 9.30am to 5pm, Wednesdays to Fridays from 10.30am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 4.30pm up until December 22.
