Dudley Town FC set to return to the borough

The dream of fans to see Dudley Town return to playing home fixtures within Dudley borough could be reality as soon as next season.

The team last played in the borough in 1985 but had to move out when a crater appeared on the pitch at Dudley Sports Centre. They now play seven miles (11.2km) away at Sporting Khalsa's ground - the Guardian Warehousing Arena - in Willenhall.

Alongside fans, Dudley Council's leader, Councillor Patrick Harley, has supported the fight to secure a location and bring The Robins back to the area.

Speaking to Black Country Radio, Cllr Harley revealed that talks have progressed to a point where the club could be back on home turf as soon as next season.

He said: "I believe that we have, between ourselves, the club and sponsors found a solution to get Dudley Town back in the borough.

"I think that will happen sooner rather than later, potentially for next season I think we could have Dudley Town playing back [in Dudley]."

The club finished sixth place in the Midland Football League last season.

First team manager, Matty Lovatt added: "Having been here seven years, I feel like an adopted Dudley man.

"I feel attached to the club and I feel their pain. It's only right for the people that they've got a ground back in their own town."
