Feed the birds and save the planet

Youngsters can help nature and the planet with a fun upcycling project at Sycamore Adventure Play as part of National Recycle Week from 23rd to 29th September.

The fun session, organised by the council’s recycling team and delivered by staff at the centre, will see plastic water bottles upcycled into bird feeders.

The session is on Wednesday the 25th September from 1pm to 6pm. There is a suggested donation of £2 per child to attend. There is no need to book but people who haven’t used the centre before will need to register their child at sycamoreadventure.co.uk and select “register to play”.

The theme of this year’s National Week is ‘Recycling. with an emphasis on making recycling the norm. Recycle week will be asking people to rinse, squash, sort separate in the bathroom, the kitchen, in the office and in the great outdoors.

The council will be posting a recycle tip of the day during the week and is reminding residents that they can always request additional green and blue bags for their plastic and paper recycling. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services said:

"This is a fun activity for children to take part in, but also teaches us all an important lesson about re-using things we typically think of as waste. Items can have a second lease of life before they need to be recycled or disposed of and it is something we could all think about before throwing things away.

"I hope that this activity and indeed the week inspires people to step up and do what they can to reduce, reuse and recycle"
The centre is free to use but visitors are asked to make a small donation per child to help with the centre’s upkeep.
