Figures show council taking 'strong steps' to tackle anti-social behaviour

Nine out of ten residents who have complained to Dudley Council about anti-social behaviour this year are happy with the way the authority has tackled the issue, new figures reveal.

It represents a huge increase on the 47 per cent who were satisfied with the way their complaint was dealt with between April 2022 and March 2023.

The council has received 867 complaints about anti-social behaviour since April this year.

Of those, 154 completed a survey asking how satisfied they were with how their complaint had been dealt with.

The most complained about subjects have been noise, verbal abuse, harassment, violence, hate related incidents and youth-related anti-social behaviour.

The council currently has 17 cases going through the courts seeking eviction notices for problem tenants.

Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for housing and homelessness, said: “We know how much of a scourge anti-social behaviour can be on people’s lives, and we have made it a priority of the council to tackle this.

“The large increase in satisfaction with regards to complaints in this area is therefore hugely positive news.

“It is indicative that the council is taking strong steps to tackle anti-social behaviour, and a good reflection on the excellent work being done by our officers.

“We will not hesitate to use our enforcement powers and take persistent offenders to court if necessary, and currently have a number of cases going through the legal system.

“We will continue to do all we can to assist residents who need our help.”

Anti-social behaviour can be reported on MyDudley online or by calling Dudley Council Plus on 0300 555 2345.
