Around 60 firefighters are tackling an extensive grass fire near Stourbridge golf course, in the Racecourse Lane area.

The fire, which covers an area estimated to be 40 acres in size - including a wood - has been burning since around 1:30pm this afternoon and is now affecting six properties

Norton Road is closed as flames are spreading across roads in places.

Michael Morgan from Stourbridge was one of the first to dial 999. He told Black Country Radio: "I was coming down Norton Road and could see the wildfire in the fields - I pulled over and called 999.

"Fire engines attended and the flames were spreading that quickly they soon took the bushes and the electricity pylons seemed to catch fire.

"It all happened so quickly I just had to get away to save me being caught in the flames too."

The fire is affecting a number of locations around Ounty John Lane, Racecourse Lane and Stourbridge Road - two casualties have been affected by heat and smoke.

All train services between Stourbridge and Hagley are affected, as well as a number of properties in the surrounding area which are understood to be experiencing power issues.
