Dog owners will soon have an easy new way to clean their dogs after a muddy walk, with the opening of the first self-service dog wash in the borough, at Sandwell Valley Visitor Centre.
The new facility, delivered in partnership with The Dog Wash Company, will open on Monday 16 February 2026 and is soon to be installed in the Visitor Centre courtyard.
Designed to be quick, simple and stress-free, the dog wash is perfect for cleaning up after walks and outdoor adventures around Sandwell Valley and nearby green spaces.
The unit includes warm water, dog-safe shampoo and drying equipment, so owners can give their dogs a proper clean without the mess at home.
Located in the Visitor Centre Courtyard, the self-service dog wash is suitable for dogs of all shapes and sizes. No pre-booking is required, making it a convenient option for those looking for a practical solution after walks, playtime or bad weather.
Councillor Suzanne Hartwell, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community at Sandwell Council, said: “As part of our Animal Welfare Task Group and the Sandwell Animal Welfare Charter, we are committed to protect and promote animal welfare across the borough.
“This new dog wash is a simple but valuable addition at Sandwell Valley Visitor Centre for local dog owners. It helps keep dogs clean, supports responsible pet ownership and makes it easier for people to enjoy our outdoor spaces all year round.
The dog wash will be available from 10am to 4pm, in line with our usual Visitor Centre opening hours. Clear instructions will be provided on site, and the unit offers easy, contactless card payments.
Dog owners are encouraged to make use of the new facility and to keep their eyes peeled for more dog-friendly improvements coming soon.
