Investigative reporter John Sweeney will visit Stourbridge on March 14 to launch the local Liberal Democrats’ manifesto and share stories from his illustrious career.
John is known for his work with BBC Panorama and The Observer, exposing the inner workings of the Kremlin and the shadowy practices of Scientology. More recently, he reported from Kyiv during the opening salvos of the Russo-Ukrainian War in 2022.
As well as being a renowned journalist, John Sweeney is also an author and stood for the Liberal Democrats in the 2024 General Election.
On Saturday, March 14, Sweeney will unveil the Dudley Liberal Democrats’ manifesto at Katie Fitzgerald’s on Enville Street before taking to the campaign trail with local party members.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Andrew Tromans, who represents Wollaston and Stourbridge Town, said: “John is a fascinating man with a storied journalistic career. I had a few pints with him at party conference last year and twisted his arm to visit Stourbridge!
“All are welcome to join us at The Duke William, where John will be sharing tales on subjects as varied as Putin and Tom Cruise.”
John will deliver a talk entitled ‘Putin, Panorama and Pints: An Evening with John Sweeney’ at The Duke William on Coventry Street. The event opens at 6pm and will begin shortly afterwards.
Tickets for over-18s are available online.
