The manager and former directors of a Pensnett takeaway have been ordered to pay a combined total of £3,084 for food hygiene offences following a court case on 12 August.
Dudley Council's environmental health team undertook a routine food hygiene inspection at Ken's Takeaway on Broad Street in Pensnett in October 2024.
Dudley Magistrates' Court heard how officers found poor standards of cleanliness and maintenance of both the structure and equipment throughout the premises during the court hearing.
Conditions beneath the wok range demonstrated a lack of effective routine cleaning and were found to be in an extremely poor condition, with standing water and heavy accumulations of grease present.
Leaking pipework was also observed, and the wash hand basin was not provided with suitable materials for hygienic hand drying.
Suba Kiran, a former director of the company with previous food offences at the premises, pleaded guilty to six food hygiene offences. The court prohibited her from participating in the management of any food business, she was fined £846 and ordered to pay £838 in costs.
Maria Waqaz, also a former director, and Waqaz Parvez, who was the manager at the time of the inspection, pleaded guilty to all offences. They were each fined £200 and ordered to pay £500 in costs.
Councillor Daniel Bevan, cabinet member for development and regulation, said: "Food businesses have a legal responsibility to maintain high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness to protect the health of their customers.
“The conditions identified during this inspection fell significantly below the standards we expect and which the public has every right to expect when purchasing food.
"Our environmental health team works hard to support businesses in meeting their obligations, but where serious breaches are identified, we will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action.
“This prosecution demonstrates our commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining confidence in food businesses across the borough."
