Free swimming returns to the borough this half term

There’s no need for youngsters to be bored over the holidays with lots of fun to be had at Dudley borough leisure centres this February half term.

Duncan Edwards, Crystal, Halesowen leisure centres and The Dell Stadium have plenty of activities to entertain the kids, including free-swimming, £1 football sessions, and brand-new soft play areas.

All Dudley borough residents aged 16 and under can enjoy free-swimming at Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge, Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre in Dudley and Halesowen Leisure Centre from Saturday 18 February to Sunday 26 February inclusive.

Young people must be supervised by a responsible adult aged 18 or over to enjoy the free-swimming offer, which is part of the borough’s Child Friendly Dudley initiative. Children under the age of eight must be accompanied in the water by an adult or responsible person over 18 years of age. One adult must accompany no more than two children under the age of eight into the swimming pool.

People who have not previously registered for free swimming must do so at www.freeswimindudley.co.uk before their visit. Numbers are limited and entry will be on a first come first served basis.

Family fun disability swims will be held at Duncan Edwards on Wednesday 22 February from 3.10pm to 5pm, at Crystal Leisure Centre on Friday 24 February from 2pm to 4pm and at Halesowen Leisure Centre on Saturday 18 and 25 February from 2.30pm to 3.45pm. The free-swimming offer for under 16s is applicable for these sessions.

Crystal Leisure Centre will also be offering families the chance to attend a later family swimming session on Tuesday 21 February, from 5pm to 8pm. There will be a fun float session on Saturday 25 February from 1.15pm to 2.15pm at Duncan Edwards. Normal admission prices will apply for this session.

At the Dell Stadium, children aged eight and over can enjoy a kickabout on the 3G football pitch for just £1 each. Sessions take place from 9am to 4pm and run from Monday 20 to Friday 24 February. People aged 16 years and above can play for just £2. Appropriate football boots must be worn, and youngsters are asked to bring their own balls.

Table-tennis and badminton is also available at Duncan Edwards and Crystal leisure centres throughout the week for children aged eight years and above, with equipment available to hire.

The Planet Play areas at Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre and Halesowen Leisure Centre will offer soft play for children up to the age of 11. Crystal Leisure Centre’s soft play facility will also be open for children aged seven and under.

Parents are advised to call ahead to check opening times and availability. Councillor David Stanley, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

“Our leisure centres will help to keep youngsters active and occupied this half term and our free-swimming offer will no doubt attract lots of families.

“As always, we are reminding parents that they need to register in advance and to be aware that numbers are limited and entry will be on a first come first served basis.”
