Glass Museum celebrates triple success at awards

Stourbridge Glass Museum is celebrating after an 'extraordinary' triple win at the Black Country Heroes Awards, recognising outstanding contributions from volunteers, students, partners and staff.

The top honour of the evening was awarded to Heather Shotton, whose long‑standing commitment to community organisations across the Black Country has made her a vital force for positive change.

Heather’s work with Stourbridge Glass Museum, alongside her support for young people and other local groups, has strengthened cultural engagement across the region. Her recognition as Volunteer of the Year celebrates years of dedication, leadership and service.

The museum also celebrated Jack and Lewis, two students from Halesowen College who successfully completed a fundraising placement with Stourbridge Glass Museum.

Their efforts contributed meaningfully to the museum’s charitable work. The museum emphasises that its running costs are not funded by taxpayers, making fundraising partnerships like this essential.

Finally, curator, Niamh Peters was honoured for her exceptional delivery of the Churchill Memorial Screen exhibition and her continued work organising events that support the museum’s mission. Her creativity and commitment have played a key role in expanding the museum’s cultural offer.

The museum also extended congratulations to its partners and friends at Brierley Hill Babybank, one of the Mayor’s other charities, who won Fundraiser of the Year for their vital support to families across the Black Country.

The museum continues to be a popular destination for volunteers, with a waiting list now extending to March. These awards highlight the strength of community collaboration and the growing cultural impact of Stourbridge Glass Museum.
