Halesowen College gets set to open new construction campus

Halesowen College has announced its new campus, which will welcome students in September 2026 who enrol on the college’s brand-new construction courses.

This marks the college's first major curriculum expansion in fifteen years, reflecting its commitment to addressing the skills gap within the construction industry and supporting the aspirations of young people across our local communities.

Located on Amber Way, Halesowen, the spacious facility will accommodate nearly four-hundred learners, providing them with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience to develop the skills and techniques used in five construction trades; Electrical Installation, Carpentry and Joinery, Bricklaying, Plastering, Painting and Decorating.

The former SkateHut premises, are being repurposed specifically for the delivery of this new curriculum for Halesowen College.  Spacious classrooms and dedicated work areas tailored to each trade will allow students to experience real-world construction scenarios as well as having theory- based lessons.

The campus will also include on-site food facilities and open social spaces, ensuring a comfortable and conducive learning environment.

In light of the Milburn Report that reported 1 in 8 young people in the UK are reported NEET (not in education, employment, or training) and the Government's focus on equipping young people with the skills needed to succeed in the workforce, the campus will play a key role in providing training opportunities for learners eager to embark on a career in the construction industry.

Jacquie Carman, Principal of Halesowen College, said “This is a really exciting time for Halesowen College as we launch our new Construction curriculum for 2026.

"The construction industry is experiencing significant growth and with that comes a demand for skilled people to fill the jobs.  We look forward to welcoming our first cohort of learners on our construction courses in September.”

Alex Ballinger, MP for Halesowen, added:

“Getting young people into sustainable work is central to the Government's agenda. What Halesowen College is doing in developing its Construction curriculum and repurposing this building to accommodate learners is truly impressive.

"The new construction centre is a fantastic addition to the community and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the future of the construction industry.”
