Halesowen town centre diversion for gas main works

A stretch of Stourbridge Road, Halesowen, has been made temporarily one-way this week for gas supply work to take place.

The 20m stretch of the A458 Stourbridge Road in Halesowen is one way eastbound from its junction with New Road roundabout towards Halesowen until Friday 1st June. This to safely enable Balfour Beatty to provide a new gas supply on behalf of Cadents Green.

Traffic will not be able to enter Stourbridge Road from the roundabout, and the diversion for westbound traffic will be Earls Way, Bromsgrove Road, Queensway, Hagley Road, Albert Road, Elizabeth Road and Alexandra Road.

Disruption to traffic is anticipated and drivers are strongly advised to seek an alternative route if possible. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental services, said:

“This is a small, but significant piece of work being undertaken by the energy supplier. Making this 20m stretch one-way effectively means traffic won’t be able to enter Stourbridge Road from the roundabout and will instead need to follow the diversion route we’re putting in place.

“We’ve arranged for the work to take place over the half term holiday week when there are fewer cars on the road in order to minimise disruption to motorists. However, we anticipate people will face delays and ask them to bear with us.”
