A stretch of Himley Road remains sealed off today while officers scour the area where violence broke out last night.
A man was seriously injured when disorder broke out. Specialist police units, including armed officers, were sent to Himley Road in Dudley at around 10pm last night after residents reportedly heard gunshots.
Emergency services had also received reports that a man had been knocked over. Police found a 36-year-old man with serious leg injuries and he was taken to hospital by paramedics.
A cordon was immediately placed on the heavily residential road between Wolverhampton Street and Parkway Road and an intensive forensic search was carried out of the area. Chief Inspector Sean Phillips, said:
“A 36-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries. At this stage no other victims have been identified, checks are being carried out to establish whether this is definitely the case.
“Gun crime is a high priority for us and we will be working round the clock to identify who is responsible. We urge anyone who was in the vicinity, and saw what happened, to contact us as soon as possible with any information.”
Police are also investigating if there are any other victims, as well as trawling CCTV in a bid to establish what happened. The road is still closed off in both directions and diversions are in place.
