Himley Park to re-open today following government advice

Himley Park is set to re-open its gates this morning, with visitors being warned to follow government rules on social distancing or risk the park being shut again.

The grounds of Himley Hall were closed last month after crowds gathered at the beauty spot, flouting government social distancing guidelines.

But following government advice over the weekend for parks to be open for people to enjoy daily exercise, the council has reviewed the closure, with the gates once again set to re-open to visitors from today. Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council said:

"We want all our parks to be open so people have somewhere to go for fresh air and exercise.

"The decision to close Himley park was not taken lightly and we hope that, once re-opened, visitors will follow the clear government rules around social distancing and remain at least two metres apart from others.

"This decision to open the park again will be kept under review and if people flout the very clear government rules, I will not hesitate to reconsider. People need to stay at home, save lives and protect the NHS.”

Government rules are very clear that people should only head outdoors for essential reasons, such as exercise, and they should always follow social distancing restrictions, remaining at least two metres apart from others.
