Home energy savings on offer from Dudley Council 'Big Switch'

Dudley borough residents will this week be receiving letters from the council encouraging them to make savings on their home energy bills with the Big Switch.

The council runs the energy switching scheme for residents to save cash on their gas and electricity bills. The scheme is run three times each year and at this year’s auctions householders saved an average of up to £300 per year.

The scheme offers residents market leading deals on energy which are not available elsewhere.  It’s well worth getting registered, particularly as it has been recently reported that up to sixty percent of top energy deals are not available on the standard switching sites.

Evidence shows that seven out of ten households are still on a standard energy tariff, which means that they are spending more than they should be and will be able to make considerable savings.

Since the scheme began in June 2013 the collective savings made by borough residents has topped half a million pounds. Cllr Les Jones, cabinet member for housing, said:

“Look out for your letter inviting you to sign up and register for the Big Switch. It’s simple and hassle free to get registered, clear instructions are provided and the switching is all handled for you.

"The deals offered through the scheme are market leading, so people will be getting real value for money. With winter on its way now is the ideal time to be registering to save, as well as keeping warm and well at home.”

To take advantage of the cut price rates offered, people are encouraged to register online at dudley.gov.uk/bigswitch, or by calling 0300 555 2345. You will need to have your current tariff details and fuel usage (shown in your most recent bill) to hand.

The scheme is open to all householders, including people living in rented accommodation, those with a prepayment meter and people with a fuel debt of up to £500 or less.
