Hospice bride finally gets her church wedding

A blushing bride in Stourbridge has finally had the church wedding of her dreams, 50 years after she originally said "I do".

Judith Jones, 66, is currently receiving treatment at the Mary Stevens Hospice in Oldswinford for an inoperable brain tumour and made staff aware that when she had originally married her late-husband at the age of 16, her parents hadn't allowed her to get married in a church or wearing a white dress because she was too young.

So alongside staff at the Hospice, she arranged to have a private ceremony in church and have her wedding rings blessed by the pastor.

Judith also received a wedding present from local boutique, Hagley Bridal, who heard about the ceremony and donated her wedding dress completely free of charge so that she could enjoy her big day. Esther Olivier, Social Worker at Mary Stevens Hospice, said:

“Judith is a beautiful soul who deserved the wedding day she's always dreamed of and it is our privilege here at the Hospice to be able to do our little bit to ensure she got it.

"Some moments in your life will live with you for as long as you live and I can speak on behalf of everyone here at the charity in saying that sharing Judith's special day with her is something we'll all treasure and feel grateful to have been a part of."
