More than 20 supporters of Mary Stevens Hospice have raised over £13,000 for the charity through a series of skydives.
Hospice supporters took part in the "Skydive Days" on a number of dates between September 30th and October 21st at Hinton Airfield, although one jumper went as far as Australia to complete his dive over Sydney Harbour Bridge to raise funds for the charity which cares for patients and families battling life-limiting illnesses in the West Midlands.
In total, 22 supporters made the jump across the month, however fundraisers at the Hospice have said that there has been a spike in the number of people booking to take the challenge on next year on the back of this year's drive and are expecting to have to organise a lot more days in 2019. Ruth Longville, Event Organiser, Mary Stevens Hospice Group said:
“Each one is an absolute inspiration and the difference an amount like that will make to families here is just overwhelming to think about.
"A couple of the guys had to overcome their phobias to take part and in doing so they have made our care possible for someone in their hour of greatest need which is just the most remarkable achievement.”
Jemma Mondon, who took part in the skydive, added:
“To receive such incredible support, messages and donations from my friends and family was incredibly moving, and perfectly illustrates just how well-loved and respected a cause this really is.
"I have a phobia of flying and there were moments before take-off where all I could think was "what have I signed up to?" but I'm so glad I did it, it's one of the most amazing experiences of my life and knowing that doing it will mean the charity can care for a family in need is just such a wonderful feeling."
Anyone wanting to book a skydive day for 2019 can call 01384 377 778 or email ruth.longville@mshfundraising.co.uk. The deposit required is £80 and supporters need to raise £400 in total to pay for the jump.
