Hundreds of local people test new approach to meeting with Black Country recruiters

MP’s Mike Wood and James Morris have thanked Black Country recruiters for helping to bring new opportunities to hundreds of their constituents by supporting the duo’s innovative app-based Virtual Jobs and Careers Fair.

The online and in-app event, which took place last Friday, saw hundreds of constituents download the Career Fair Plus app which was used to deliver a new approach to bringing recruiters and potential candidates together, despite the challenges of a global pandemic. Mike said:

“Both James and I usually hold large-scale in-person Jobs Fairs to help our constituents find new jobs and opportunities. This is something our constituents need now more than ever but because of the risks posed by Covid-19, an in-person event just wasn’t possible this year.

“James and I were determined to find a way of helping our constituents find new opportunities, and we were so pleased how eager employers and training providers were to work with us on this new platform.”

James added:

“Even though this year’s format has been uniquely different we have still had the opportunity to connect many people up with employers and training providers. I hope we will get to see some successful outcomes over the coming weeks and months.

“I also want to say a big thank you to our sponsors - Intu Merry Hill, Black Country Housing Group, Halesowen College and Sandwell College - for their help in making it happen”.

More than thirty organisations took part, offering opportunities in construction, public services, administration and many other sectors.

Hundreds of local people downloaded the app which enabled them to browse vacancies and book virtual on-the-day meetings with recruiters.

For those who were unable to join the event on Friday 6th November, details of many of the opportunities which were promoted are still available across both MP’s social media channels.
