James Morris MP joined with Halesowen BID and local volunteers on Friday (3rd July) to clean up rubbish and overgrowth on the station and platforms.

Halesowen BID was awarded £50,000 from the Customer & Community Investment Fund to help increase awareness of Halesowen for travellers alighting at the station, and over the last few months James has been working with the BID, local Councillors, Sandwell MBC and West Midlands Rail to improve the station. 

As well as regular clean-ups by a new ‘Friends of Rowley Regis station’ group, students at Halesowen College are involved in designing new artwork for the station and new planters and metalwork will be installed, as well as visible directions for way-finding towards Halesowen. James said:

"I was really pleased that Halesowen BID were awarded a grant to improve a CCIF grant to make the town more visible. Rowley Regis is the often the main station used for those needing to travel to Halesowen by rail, so I welcome these plans to increase visibility of the town and all it has to offer.

"It’s important we keep the station looking tidy and presentable, and I’ll continue doing what I can to help. I hope we’ll see an increase in footfall in Halesowen as a result of this project, there are so  many flourishing small businesses in the town who would really benefit."

"It was great to have James with us on Friday, we made a lot of progress as a team and got Rowley Regis Station looking a lot cleaner and tidier.

"We’re really looking forward to brightening the Station up with more artwork and plants, and increasing the visibility of Halesowen for everyone who gets on and off the train here."
