Kingswinford salutes 90th anniversary of local Royal British Legion

Royal British Legion members, dignitaries and residents have held a day of celebration to mark the 90th anniversary of the Kingswinford branch.

The event started with a parade of local Royal British Legion standard bearers and was looked upon by both Royal British Legion and local dignitaries.

An afternoon tea was hosted by the Legion which saw Bob Townsend being presented with a Life Membership Award for his work with the Poppy Appeal. Entertainment on the evening was arranged by George Fox and saw Vicky Elise entertaining visitors and guests. Sue Grainger, who led the organisation of the event, said:

“The 90th anniversary of Kingswinford Royal British Legion has been a celebration through music. It was a huge success – not only supported by the local community but it brought together organisations that have supported the Branch.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration a huge success and to anyone who visited and sat in the sunshine listening to the excellent music provided for the occasion.”

Mike Wood, Dudley South MP, added: “It really has been such an honour to join members of Kingswinford Royal British Legion and all who attended to mark the 90th anniversary of Kingswinford’s Royal British Legion branch

“It has been an incredibly special occasion celebrated with music and community spirit – and, made even more special as branch stalwart, Bob Townsend, was presented with a life membership award for his many years of work for the Poppy Appeal."

Mrs Grainger also noted especial thanks to Kingswinford ATC, Summerhill School Steel Band, Wolverhampton Pipe Band, St Marys Choir (Kingswinford) who attended to support Father Adam in a small service of thanks – adding that Father Adam gave an excellent rendition of the history of Kingswinford Royal British Legion which was enjoyed by many in the sunshine.
