Landmark pub closes its doors

A popular Lye pub has closed its doors, blaming spiralling costs.

The Windsor Castle pub became the home to Sadlers Brewery following the brands move from Oldbury in the early 2000’s.

Current licensees, husband and wife team, Gareth and Emily, opened Printworks Brewery on the site in 2019, but in a statement published on social media yesterday they announced the pubs closure. They said:

“As a family we are immensely proud of everything we have achieved over the past 17 years. From the quality of our traditionally brewed beers to our homemade food, we have always worked hard to produce the best that we can for our customers.

“Ultimately though [because of] persistent inflation, Covid debts, the cost of living crisis and everything else that hospitality has endured over the past few years…it is no longer viable for us to continue.

“We can’t thank you enough for all the good times we have shared. We have loved your company, treasured your friendship and hope that you have some fun memories of us!”

The news has caused upset amongst local residents, who called the move a ‘great loss to the community’.
