Last chance to enjoy the DY Eye

Business, community and council leaders are warning fun seekers not to miss their chance to ride on Dudley’s DY Eye, as it enters its last week.

The 35m high giant observation wheel has been in town since March 12th and is the largest attraction of its type to come to the Black Country.  It will remain in Stone Street Square until April 10th, the last day of the Easter holidays, when a closing ceremony will celebrate its success at 3pm.

Thousands of people from across the country have already visited the wheel and the team behind it are hoping that more than 8,000 people will have enjoyed the attraction before it rolls out of town.

Stuart Connelly, head of service at Dudley Council, said:

“We’ve still got some days to go, but already it has surpassed all our expectations in terms of the numbers of people visiting it and the positive comments that the majority of people who have visited the wheel have given us.

“There’s not long left now, so don’t miss your chance to have a ride.”

Vouchers for 25 per cent off both adult and children’s tickets are available at some of the wheel’s bronze sponsors in return for a purchase.  They can be picked up at the Arcade Toy Shop and the Arcade Cafe, both in the Fountain Arcade, Black Country T Shirts shop on Castle Street, Love The Dress on New Street, Laura Elizabeth Crafts on Stone Street and at Penny’s Brew on Dudley Market.

The eye is being delivered in association with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and organised by the Dudley Business Group (a business-led group that works to attract people to Dudley), Dudley Market Traders Ltd and Dudley Council.

As well as the wheel, the partnership behind the project is organising fun events to take place in the town centre throughout the month.  These include a giant Easter egg trail, which can be picked up at Dudley Library, Dudley Museum and Art Gallery and at Dudley Council Plus, The Great Dudley Bake-Off event in ‘bottom church’ on Saturday April 9th and a free wedding dress fashion show, in the Churchill Shopping Centre, also on Saturday April 9th.

A full programme of the events can be seen at dudley.gov.uk/dyevents.
