The leader of Dudley Council has again reiterated his commitment to protect the borough’s greenbelt ahead of the final consultation stage of Dudley’s Local Plan.
A government planning inspector has already given her approval to Dudley Council’s desire to protect the borough’s green spaces from development.
Dudley's new local plan was subjected to rigorous examination by a planning inspector. A number of proposed main modifications have been recommended by the inspector, and having been subsequently agreed with the council, the plan is now ready for final consultation. The council will consult on the proposed main modifications only. The rest of the plan still stands.
The 6-week consultation runs from Wednesday 11 March until 5pm on Wednesday 22 April. Copies of the main modifications will be uploaded to the Local Plan Examination website and hard copies placed in the main libraries. An FAQ page and details of the consultation process and guidance on how to respond can be found on the council website.
The leader of Dudey Council, Councillor Patrick Harley said: "The inspector agrees with our stance on the green belt and has agreed our plan without proposed development on green belt is a sound and deliverable plan.
“The local plan and indeed all planning applications have to abide by planning law and we will assess all and any application against this, no matter how big or small.
"While we are keen to work with developers across the borough, I do want to emphasise that speculative planning applications will fall at the first hurdle. We have to work within the system.”
Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for economy and infrastructure, added: “We’re almost at the finish line with the Dudley Plan. The inspector already agrees that our approach is sound, we’ve incorporated her changes and are looking to run this six week consultation on these final updates.
“I’d encourage people to look at these final documents and share any feedback.”
