Local businesses support Dudley charity boxing showdown

Businesses from across the borough have been praised for their generosity in backing this year's Dudley Charity Boxing Showdown.

The event, taking place at Dudley Town Hall on Friday (21 August), will see Dudley Council leader Councillor Patrick Harley step into the boxing ring against former councillor Shaz Saleem. The two have undertaken months of intensive training, all in the name of charity.

A host of businesses have stepped forward to sponsor the event, providing vital financial support that will help ensure as much money as possible reaches the charities.

Leading the sponsorship effort are platinum sponsors S&R Construction and Brindley Capital, whose backing has played a key role in bringing the event together.

They are joined by gold sponsors Dudley Motors, Thomas Dudley and IPL Schoeller, while GMB Union and Fun City Dudley have signed up as silver sponsors.

Supporting the event as bronze sponsors are Richardson's, Jewson Partnership Solutions, Racking UK and Sports Shop Kingswinford.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: "The charity boxing showdown is all about people coming together to support important local causes, and we are incredibly grateful to every business that has sponsored the event.

"Without the incredible support of our sponsors, this event simply would not be possible. By meeting the full cost of staging the charity boxing showdown, they have ensured that every single penny raised on the night will go directly to the mayoral charities.

"That is an extraordinary commitment from the local business community and one we are immensely grateful for."

Councillor Pete Lowe, Mayor of Dudley, added: "Having seen the commitment and dedication Patrick and Shaz have put into training for this event over the past few months, I know just how much hard work has gone into preparing for fight night.

“What makes their efforts even more special is that they are doing it to raise money for a range of worthy causes, with all fundraising split between my charities and those of my predecessor, Cllr Pete Lee.”

The sponsors represent a broad cross-section of businesses operating in and around Dudley and have all recognised the importance of supporting organisations that make a real difference to local people and families.

Event organisers say the response from the business community has been overwhelming, reflecting the strength of support for both charities and the competitors who have dedicated themselves to months of training.

Proceeds from the boxing event will be shared between charities supported by both Councillor Lowe and former mayor Councillor Pete Lee.

Tickets for the Dudley Charity Boxing Showdown are still available and members of the public are encouraged to attend what promises to be an exciting evening of boxing while supporting a host of worthy causes.
