Melanie Lamb, Clinical Lead for the High Intensity Use Service at Black Country Healthcare, has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title by the Queen’s Nursing Institute.
The award recognises her outstanding leadership, compassion and dedication to improving care for some of the most vulnerable people in the community.
The Queen’s Nurse title is a nationally recognised mark of excellence, awarded to nurses who demonstrate exceptional commitment to high standards of practice, innovation, and community care. Melanie will celebrate her achievement at The QICN Annual Awards Ceremony in London this November where she will be presented with her badge and certificate.
Throughout her 20-year career in mental health nursing, Melanie has been driven by a deep passion for supporting vulnerable individuals through compassionate, person-centred care. As Clinical Lead for the High Intensity Use Service, she has spearheaded efforts to support individuals who frequently attend emergency and urgent care services, ensuring they receive the right care, at the right time, and in the right place.
Under her leadership, the team has gained national recognition for its collaborative, compassionate, and innovative approach, always striving to put people first.
Melanie’s work extends beyond clinical leadership — she has cultivated strong partnerships across the city to improve health and wellbeing outcomes.
One of the team’s most notable collaborations is with the Wolves Foundation through the Head 4 Health initiative, which uses the power of sport and community to promote mental wellbeing and offer hope to people facing difficult circumstances. This partnership exemplifies the team’s ethos of creativity and compassion in finding new ways to support individuals holistically.
Melanie said: “I am incredibly honoured to be recognised as a Queen’s Nurse. I’m proud to be a mental health nurse and committed to supporting the communities of the Black Country.
"This achievement is not mine alone, it reflects the dedication, compassion, and hard work of all my colleagues who support and inspire me every day in delivering patient care. I feel truly privileged to meet the individuals I care for and to work alongside such talented and caring people.”
Carolyn Green, Chief Nursing Officer at Black Country Healthcare said: “Our organisation is immensely proud of Melanie and the team. Her leadership, empathy, and innovative approach truly embody the spirit of nursing at its best.
"The Queen’s Nurse award is a fitting recognition of her unwavering commitment to improving lives.”
The Queen’s Nurse title connects Melanie to a national network of community nursing leaders who champion best practice and innovation across the UK. More information about the Queen’s Nurse programme can be found at qicn.org.uk.
