A man has been arrested after a hit and run collision in Quarry Bank last night.
A car hit a woman in her 20s on a pedestrian crossing on Thorns Road around 8pm. Sadly despite the best efforts of medics, she died at the scene. Her family have been informed and specialist family liaison officers will be supporting them after receiving such devastating news.
The vehicle was found abandoned nearby and the suspected driver presented himself at a police station later the same evening. The 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He remains in custody.
The road was closed for several hours while the serious collision investigation team carried out their investigation and reopened just after 8.30am this morning.
