Man arrested following Walsall shooting

Detectives investigating a shooting at a Walsall barbers shop have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 19-year-old has been taken into custody for questioning in relation to the shooting in Wolverhampton Road, Birchills, at around 5pm yesterday. A 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital. Detective Inspector Chris Fox, from force CID, said:

"A man has been left seriously injured and we are working round the clock to establish the reasons behind this shooting. This arrest is a significant development but we still need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, and not already spoken to officers, to come forward."

Officers are keen to secure any dash cam footage from drivers who were in the area around the time and may have captured a black BMW X1.

A BMW was later found burnt out and it’s thought the vehicle could have been used as a getaway.
