A man has been jailed for carrying out a terrifying assault on two teenage boys and robbing them at a park in Stourbridge.
Ryan Hand, from Lindsey Place, Brierley Hill, was jailed for eight years when he was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday 15th June.
The 37-year-old was convicted back in April of wounding following a trial. He had pleaded guilty to two charges of robbery, one charge of common assault and a charge of possessing a knife in a public place.
On 13 April, shortly after 6pm, Hand, who was wearing a balaclava, approached a group of teenagers who were talking on Brook Park, Wordsley.
He punched two teenage boys multiple times before approaching a girl, handing her his iPhone and asking her to film the incident issuing threats if she didn’t.
Hand then pulled a bladed weapon from his trousers and slashed one of the boys multiple times causing injuries which required hospital treatment. He then made off with the victims’ bags, phones and jackets.
After he left Police were called to investigate. Officers seized footage which showed him preparing for the attack and heading to the park where his victims were gathered. CCTV also showed him later with his victims’ belongings.
Hand was arrested from his home address where we seized a black iPhone, a balaclava and black gloves. None of the stolen property was recovered.
DC Chloe Davies, from the neighbourhood crime team at Dudley LPA, said: “This was a terrifying attack on teenage children who were in the park.
“I would like to thank them for their bravery in supporting us with our investigation and through the court process. I am pleased Hand is now behind bars where he can reflect on his actions.”
