The Mayor of Dudley helped to bury a time capsule in the grounds of Priory Hall to mark its 200th anniversary.
The historic hall, off Priory Road in Dudley town centre, is a popular wedding venue and also home to registrars who record births and deaths in the borough.
Registrars asked for photographs, invitations, or memories linked to births, deaths, marriages, or citizenship ceremonies that have taken place in Dudley over the years to include in the time capsule.
A picture of the Mayor, Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands Nick Venning, and new British citizens who attended their naturalisation ceremony was included in the safe. Also added was a picture of baby Gio Alexander Gill, whose birth was registered at Priory Hall on the day the capsule was buried.
Councillor Pete Lee, the borough’s first citizen, was on hand to place the vessel into the ground where it will be buried for future generations to discover.
Councillor Lee said: “Priory Hall will have a special place in the hearts of so many people in our borough. That may be as a place where they got married, or where they registered the birth of their children.
“It is very fitting that on the 200th anniversary, the registrars have put together a little treasure trove of memories inside this time capsule and buried it for people to discover in later years.
“It will ensure the history of this very special site lives on for generations to come.”
