The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Pete Lowe, is celebrating his first 100 days in office by highlighting the diversity, unity, pride and resilience of the people of Dudley which make the borough a truly bostin community.
The Mayor’s first 100 days have been defined by major events in the community, from the success of the Black Country Festival and Dudley Pride to the remarkable unity and resilience shown by communities responding to the Stourbridge fire.
Since taking office in May, Councillor Lowe has used his mayoral platform to champion the people, places and organisations that make Dudley unique through his #BOSTINDudley theme. He has led in celebrating community pride, inclusion, heritage, culture and community spirit.
His mayoral year, so far, has focused on shining a spotlight on those who make a difference across the borough, from carers and volunteers to artists, athletes, charities and community champions.
Councillor Pete Lowe, Mayor of Dudley, said: “It has been a real honour and privilege to serve as Mayor of Dudley over these first 100 days, and we have set out from the beginning to do things differently.
“Alongside Su, the Mayoress, and our seven mayoral ambassadors, we have had the opportunity to meet thousands of people at dozens of events.
“From our hugely successful Black Country Festival and the biggest Pride celebration Dudley has ever seen, to community events which have brought together people of all faiths and none to celebrate the diversity that makes our borough stronger.
“We have also witnessed the very best of Dudley in difficult times, including the response to the Stourbridge fire, where the resilience, compassion and generosity shown by local people reminded us of what community truly means.
“Throughout my mayoral year, I want to shine a light on the unsung heroes who show up for others every day and support the seven local charities we have chosen, raising as much money as possible through projects that use art, sport and heritage as a backdrop for positive change.
“My message after these first 100 days is simple: we achieve so much more when we are united as one community. Let’s continue to raise the flag for Bostin Dudley, highly and proudly. This is #BostinDudley, and I am proud to be its first citizen.”
Fundraising to support local charities has remained the Mayor’s central focus. The launch of the Mayor’s Bostin’ Beer, events such as the Charity Boxing Showdown and a packed calendar of community activities, have helped raise both awareness and funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities.
