Mayor of Dudley Visits Blowfish Glass in Wordsley

Glass artist, Eliot Walker has donated a piece of his glass art to the Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley.

The Mayor of Dudley took a tour of the Blowfish Glass studio at the Red House Cone this week.

Glass artists Bethany Wood and Elliot Walker showed the mayor around their studio and demonstrated the range of techniques they use to create their stunning pieces.

The pair generously donated a piece of their handcrafted glass to the Mayor, adding to the borough’s internationally acclaimed glass collection. Their contemporary, unique style compliments the collection’s more traditional, historic pieces.

The piece will take pride of place in the Mayor’s Parlour at Dudley Council House and reflect the borough’s rich heritage in glassmaking. It celebrates the ongoing creativity and craftsmanship that continues to thrive in the region.

Blowfish Glass, an artist-led gallery and hot glass studio based at the historic Red House Glass Cone, is known for its innovative approach to contemporary glass art.

Founded by Bethany Wood and featuring the work of Elliot Walker—winner of Netflix’s Blown Away Season 2—the studio has become a beacon for glass artistry in the UK, blending tradition with cutting-edge design.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Pete Lee praised the pair for their contribution to the borough’s cultural legacy, stating: “This beautiful piece is not only a testament to the incredible talent we have here in Dudley, but also a symbol of the generosity and community spirit that defines our borough.

"I’m delighted to welcome it into the Mayor’s Parlour, where it will be admired by visitors and dignitaries alike.”

Bethany Wood added: “We’re honoured to contribute to the borough’s collection and proud to represent the vibrant glassmaking community of Stourbridge. It’s wonderful to see our work celebrated in such a meaningful way.”

The donated artwork joins a distinguished collection of glass held by Dudley Council, which includes over 8,500 pieces spanning centuries of glassmaking history. The Mayor’s Parlour display will serve as a reminder of the borough’s enduring legacy and its bright future in the arts.
