Artists will be showcasing their ideas at a special exhibition as part of plans for public art linked to the new Metro route through Dudley borough.

Plans are being drawn up to celebrate the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill route with innovative permanent and temporary public art for the future.

The exhibition is part of a year-long Art Track project to highlight the Metro plans and is funded with a £96,000 grant from Arts Council England plus support from Dudley College and University of Wolverhampton.

The public are invited to give feedback on the artists' ideas to let Dudley Council and Transport for West Midlands know which projects they would like to see built in the future.

It will include drawings, artist impressions, photography, videos and other displays. A total 28 artists and groups have created proposals connecting the new Metro line and its public spaces.  Some of the artists will also be there to talk about their work.

The exhibition launches at Churchill Shopping Centre, Dudley, on July 15, from 1pm, and will be on display until 30 July. Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

"We have asked the most creative people around to create art that really celebrates this amazing transport revolution which is on its way to Dudley, and they have certainly delivered.

"This is an opportunity for local people to be involved in a unique public art project and have their say.

"When complete there will be a mix of permanent and temporary designs at Metro stops, plazas, public open spaces, pocket parks, community settings and trackside along the line."

Metro lines are expected to open to passengers in 2024.
