Motown memories sought as hit musical arrives in Birmingham

Motown fans of yesteryear who witnessed the debuts of Soul legends Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder in Birmingham and The Black Country in the 1960s, are being asked to share their stories.

Over 50 years ago the music icons were just embarking on their careers when they hit the stage at Wolverhampton’s Gaumont Cinema and Birmingham’s Odeon in Spring 1965, as part of the Tamla Motown Revue Show.
The tour, which also featured Smokey Robinson and The Miracles and Martha and The Vandellas, played across 18 cities including the dates in Birmingham on March 25 and Wolverhampton on April 10, and gave audiences their first chance to hear the then fledgling stars. Tickets to the once in a lifetime shows cost just 15 shillings - now around £4.
Now, as the West End production of Motown The Musical opens its first ever UK tour at Birmingham’s New Alexandra Theatre in October, producers want to hear from anyone who attended either show.
They are being asked to share their tales from the night in a bid to win three pairs of tickets to see Motown The Musical during its run at The Alex from Thursday 11 October to Saturday 3 November. Adam Spiegel, Producer of Motown The Musical, said:

“We’d love to see and hear some of your memories of Motown’s first ever UK tour in 1965. Were you were dancing in the streets outside Birmingham Odeon or Wolverhampton’s Gaumont back in Spring 1965, after witnessing the iconic Diana Ross and The Supremes perform?
“We’re thrilled to be bringing the sound of Motown back to audiences with the West End smash hit show, Motown The Musical, so tell us your stories of when you saw Motown live, and you could be in with a chance of reliving the 60s with a pair of tickets.”
Anyone who attended should send their stories of the evening, and their full details, to before the closing date of Monday 17 September 2018. The best three stories will win one pair of tickets each to see Motown The Musical on Tuesday 16 October 2018.

Motown The Musicalruns at Birmingham's New Alexandra Theatre from Thursday 11th October to Saturday 3rd November. More information and tickets can be found by clicking here.
