Multiple weapons seized across region

Police have seized multiple weapons following proactive patrols across the force area.

The Guardian Taskforce were patrolling around Birmingham on Sunday, where a man was detained after reacting to the officers' presence.

After being detained on Washwood Heath Road, Guardian officers recovered a zombie knife and the 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody for questioning.

Over in Wolverhampton city centre, another Guardian team recovered a knife after a teenage boy was detained.

During a Project Servator deployment at the bus station, a 15-year-old boy was detained and following a stop-search, a knife was recovered. The boy has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and will be appearing before Wolverhampton Magistrates later this month.

On Saturday a man was arrested and has been charged with possession of a knife in a public place in Princess End, Tipton.

John Medley, aged 45, of Tipton, was remanded in custody to appear at Walsall Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Project Guardian is a specialist taskforce which tackles knife crime and youth violence.

There is particular emphasis on reducing knife crime, through a range of tactics from plain-clothed operations to high visibility patrols and positive engagement with young people.
