Netherton community centre hopes dashed

Plans have been put forward to build seven homes on the site of a derelict pub in Netherton, despite a campaign to turn it into a community centre.

Primrose Hill Congregational Church is hoping to turn the Golden Cross pub, which is on the junction of Saltwells Road and Cradley Road, into a local hub to stage events.

But the £500,000 project now looks to be over after planning permission was submitted to the council to demolish the building to make way for new houses.

A spokesman for the church said they were disappointed.
