Dudley man, Tyler Bate, became the first ever WWE UK wrestling champion last night at a prestigious event in Blackpool.
The 19-year-old from Netherton made history after winning the 16 man tournament, which saw WWE legend Triple H make the trip to crown him champion
The former Ormiston Forge Academy pupil was not favourite to win the championship but a surprise win in the semi-final against Wolfgang Young saw him move forward to a final with his former trainer, Pete Dunne, from Birmingham.
After claiming victory in a closely fought contest, Bate was crowned WWE's first UK Champion and, amid bedlam outside the ring, a visibly shocked Tyler sat still repeating "I don't believe it".
WWE legend Paul Levesque, better known by his stage name Triple H, presented Bate with the championship belt before heading to back to USA on a private jet. He said:
"You just witnessed the beginning. At 19 years old, who doesn't think Tyler Bate is the future of this industry? Congratulations."
The first WWE superstar from the Black Country, Codsall born Darren Matthews, was also in the ring to congratulate the new champion. Better known as William Regal, he called Bate's effort "an incredible performance."
Tyler, who wrestles under his real name, has had over 200 bouts since making his debut aged 15 and now will get the opportunity to star in huge wrestling shows in America which are watched by millions across the world.
