A new leaflet has been launched to help visitors to Dudley learn more about the geological history behind some of the town’s architectural gems.

The Dudley Geological Heritage Trail was launched last Saturday by Graham Worton, Dudley Council’s head of geology, as part of Black Country Festival celebrations in the town.

The trail leaflet identifies 23 key locations around the town centre which show geological features within the architecture. They include Stone Street Square and the two statues in the town centre, of footballer Duncan Edwards and the Earl of Dudley.

The leaflet has been produced as part of the Dudley Townscape Heritage Scheme, which receives funding through the National Lottery Heritage Fund. 

It is part of a growing suite of self-guided tour leaflets, which also includes an architectural trail and a time trail, which aims to assist in the regeneration and rejuvenation of Dudley town centre. Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: 

We want to increase visitor numbers to the town centre, hopefully leading to expenditure within the local economy and supporting local businesses.

Our previous leaflet trails have proved very popular and I am sure this one will as well.

The leaflet is available to download at discover.dudley.gov.uk

Paper copies will also be available at Dudley Council Plus in Castle Street, as well as at borough libraries, museums and leisure centres.
