Sandwell's new mayoral team will be raising money for two local health causes over the coming year.
Friar Park councillor Joy Edis became the new Mayor of Sandwell in a ceremony in the Council Chamber this week, when votes of thanks were also passed to outgoing mayor Ahmadul Haque MBE and deputy Councillor Susan Eaves. Bristnall councillor Carol Goult is the new Deputy Mayor of Sandwell. Councillor Edis said:
"I am honoured and privileged to have been elected as Mayor of Sandwell and I am looking forward to representing the borough during my term of office, meeting many diverse organisations and supporting local events.
"I anticipate it will be a busy but very enjoyable year and I will work hard in raising much-needed funds for two local charities."
During her year in office, Councillor Edis will be raising money for Wood Green Academy Defibrillator Appeal and Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust - Your Trust Charity, Maternity & Neonatal Appeal.
Councillor Edis has represented Friar Park ward since 1999. Her consort for the year will be her son Mathew Edis. Councillor Goult's consort is husband Stephen Goult.
The Mayor is the first citizen of Sandwell. While the role is non-political, the Mayor presides over meetings of the council. The Mayoralty attends events across Sandwell and also represents the borough at functions outside Sandwell involving local residents or organisations.
