Dudley Council is making a change to its physical social distancing measures in Stourbridge town centre in order to help traders accept deliveries while keeping visitors safe.

Following consultation with local businesses and traders, the local authority is releasing a specific section on one side of the High Street and Market Street to create space for on street parking, loading and unloading. 

The town centre remains subject to temporary measures to retain social distancing for shoppers in pinch points.

People visiting the town are reminded of the importance of social distancing wherever possible and wearing a face covering when inside shops and other indoor spaces. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment, highways and street services, said: 

"I would like to thank all our residents who have got behind our local traders by shopping local and showing such consideration and care for others during these challenging times.

"As always we are listening to our businesses and traders to see how we can support them while working to keep everyone safe and we know this will be a welcome revision to the measures in place in Stourbridge.

"For many of our visitors the measures remain in place as usual, but we are pleased to be able to provide this additional space to load and unload."
