New police base confirmed for Dudley Town Centre

Plans for a new police station in the heart of Dudley have been unveiled following the exchange of contracts on a building on Castlegate Business Park.

The proposal is that the new station will become the Dudley Local Policing Area’s headquarters.

Castlegate is on the edge of the town centre and the building will be a base with a public contact office where local people can access services in person.

The Castlegate Business Park site supports the force’s new operating model and three long-term strategic aims of delivering a service that works for local people, creating engaged communities and becoming an employer of choice.

The current headquarters in Brierley Hill will be sold but the force are actively looking for a new base in Brierley Hill for the local neighbourhood policing team and some emergency response officers. Chief Constable Craig Guildford said:

“While it is officers on the ground and not the stations they occupy which makes people safer, this is great news for the people of Dudley.

“From the moment I became Chief Constable 10 months ago, I made it clear that West Midlands Police will be providing a service that works for all local people.

“That’s why I developed a local policing model which provides a local, visible police service, delivered in the heart of communities.

“I also pledged to be transparent and accountable to communities about what we are doing and why so I am pleased that we can now share details about these plans to create a new police station that is open to the public, in Dudley town.”
