New service set to support people to get healthy

A new healthy lifestyle service launches in Dudley on Saturday.

Wellness coaches from the Let’s Get Healthy, Dudley healthy lifestyle service, will be in Dudley town centre on Saturday (August 12) from 10am - 4pm, to offer free health assessment and health tips. The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Dave Tyler will be dropping by at 1pm.

People can try the healthy lifestyle triage quiz, which will allow them to assess their own health and wellbeing and provide helpful hints on any behaviour changes they wish to try. There’s also information on how  to access the new service, including the new single point of access telephone line.

The wellness coaches will be on hand to provide community health checks from the ‘wellness on wheels’ van and will be encouraging people to visit the new website;

The website has information, tips and advice on managing mental wellbeing, information about alcohol, stopping smoking, eating well, managing weight and staying active and connected to your community.

There’s the opportunity to sign up for additional support, including  wellness coaching one-to-one sessions, cook4life courses and weight management support through slimming world, weight watchers, shapeup4life or referral to a specialist weight management programme. All referrals are dependent on eligibility criteria.

The wellness coaches will also be signposting to fun and friendly exercise and physical activity opportunities around the borough, as well as to voluntary and community groups which can help people connect with others and become active within their community. Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for health, said:

“The new Let’s Get Healthy service aims to inspire, encourage and support the people of the borough to get healthy.

“The launch event on Saturday is set to be lots of fun, with the wellness coaches offering individual advice and signposting people to a range of free services which can help them to live healthier, more active, more connected lifestyles.”
