New surgery, sport facility and classrooms in Dudley

Dudley Council is set to rule on an application to extend a Stourbridge dental practice into a private home.

The authority has received a request for a change of use at a property on Heath Lane in Oldswinford from Imperial Dental.

The company already operates a surgery in a neighbouring property and has recently purchased the two-story end-terrace which is the subject of the application.

If allowed the addition to the existing facilities will provide an extra two treatment rooms and upgraded provision for disabled patients.

Also in Stourbridge, council planners have been asked to consider an application for two padel courts and small pool for swimming training.

The application is for a change of use at a warehouse facility on Mill Race Lane in Amblecote.

The proposed centre would operate a controlled booking system with keyless entry system for padel court users during quiet periods.

A statement supporting the application said: “The proposed sports facility will operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal impact on neighbouring uses. 

“Controlled booking systems, supervised pool operations, low parking demand, and secure access arrangements ensure the development is appropriate for the site and fully aligned with planning expectations.”

The council has so far received one letter of objection which said: “Each court will hold four players per match that is a maximum of four cars per game per court (eight cars per hour), plus then the incoming players being there on time, which could be a max of 16 car parking spaces required – that isn’t minimum car parking allocation requirement.”

In Halesowen, planners have granted permission for two new classroom cabins at Halesbury School in Feldon Lane.

The timber-clad cabins will replace two temporary classrooms near the northern boundary of the site, the development will provide a new play area and soft play provision.

A report on the plan from council officers said: “The proposed cabins would provide additional skills development opportunities. 

“One cabin would be used as a training shop to support the development of independent living and vocational skills, whilst the second would be used by medical professionals to provide additional support for pupils.”
